Manitou Community Garden

Address: S. 66th and Ferdinand, Tacoma, Washington

Community Garden advocate, Andy Morhorst, in conjunction with Safe Streets and other community organizations, worked tirelessly to create this garden in 2009. It is owned by Metro parks Tacoma but organized and run by volunteers. All harvested produce is donated to the local food bank.



  • No individually gardened plots, All communal space with some wheelchair-accessible elevated beds. All of the food goes to Manitou's Presbyterian food bank and other food banks.
  • Yearly Cost per plot: none
  • All community members are welcome to garden; volunteers are always needed
  • The Garden is seasonal
  • Composting: is done on site
  • The Garden is organic
  • Hours of Operation: dawn to dusk
  • Transportation: A parking lot available to gardeners and near-by bus-line.
