Franklin Community Garden

The Franklin garden is one of the largest community gardens in the City of Tacoma. It is owned by Metro parks Tacoma and run by a site coordinator. It has a greenhouse and provides educational opportunities such as how to construct an enabling garden (provided through a partnership between the Masters Gardener Foundation and Life Christian School).

  • Limits: Gardeners are limited to 2 plots each
  • Individual Plot Availability: Wait-list at 45 people
  • Communal Garden Space: There is a 60x30' food bank plot, gardened on a volunteer basis. This area is wheelchair-accessible.
  • Gardener Eligibility: Anyone is eligible for plots, which are assigned on a first come-first serve basis. Gardeners can renew plots(s) each year.
  • Gardener Requirements: Must follow written garden rules and guidelines
  • Some plots are seasonal while others are year-round.(40% year round)
  • Composting: on-site will begin soon
  • A tool shed: for shared tools is coming soon
  • The Garden is organic
  • Hours of Operation: Dawn to Dusk
  • Transportation: Parking lot is available and the garden is near a bus line.
